Following protests by farmers in North Karnataka demanding Rs. 3,500 per tonne for sugarcane, the state government took action. It issued a government order on Saturday to fix the sugarcane price in Karnataka at Rs. 3,300 per tonne. Its full details are published below.
In the wake of the farmers’ protests, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah held discussions with sugarcane factory owners and farmer leaders and finally took the final decision to fix an additional price for sugarcane as per the farmers’ consensus.

Karnataka Sugarcane Rate 2025- Rs 3,300 fixed for per tonne of sugarcane: CM Siddaramaiah
The sugarcane price has been fixed at Rs 3,300 per tonne after discussions with sugar mill owners and farmer leaders. The mills will pay Rs 50 per tonne in addition to the previously fixed price of Rs 3,200 per tonne and the state government will provide Rs 50 as a one-time incentive. Excluding transport and harvesting costs, sugarcane with a yield of 10.5 per cent will get Rs 3,200 per tonne and sugarcane with a yield of 11.25 per cent will get Rs 3,300 per tonne, CM Siddaramaiah shared the information.
Karnataka Sugarcane Rate New Rate List- Revised Price List Based on Yield:
The revised new sugarcane price list based on yield has been issued in a government order by the Under Secretary, Commerce and Industry, Government. The price list of sugarcane supplied to farmers in sugarcane factories in 2025-26 is as follows:
- 1) Price per tonne for 9.25% yield – Rs. 3,390/- (including transport and harvesting costs)
- 2) Price per tonne for 10.25% yield – Rs. 3,200/- (excluding transport and harvesting costs)
- 3) Price per tonne for 11.25% yield – Rs. 3,300/- (excluding transport and harvesting costs)
Karnataka Sugarcane Production – Over 6 Crore MT Sugar Production This Year:
Sugarcane yield varies from district to district. However, there will be an increase of Rs. 100 for all yields. The Central Government has fixed Rs. 3,550 per MT for sugarcane on 10-5-2025, which will result in a recovery of 10.5% including harvesting and transport.
Last year, 5.6 crore metric tonnes of sugar was produced in the state and this year it is estimated to be over 6 crore metric tonnes. In today’s meeting, it was decided that sugar factories will have to pay Rs 3,250 for 11.25 kg of recovered sugarcane, which is applicable to the sugar factories, excluding harvesting and transportation costs. The government has decided to pay an additional Rs 50 for this.
This is Rs 100 more than the rate finalized by the Belgaum District Collector. Almost all the sugar factory owners have agreed to it. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on his Twitter/Ex account that different rates will be fixed from district to district as per the recovery rate.
